A lot of people feel the need to get travel insurance when they go on a trip but not a lot of them know which is the best kind to have. That’s why we’ll review all of the types of TI so you can choose which one is best for you & your family.
So first off, there’s a type known as medical which helps to cover any expenses from injuries you may sustain while on your trip. Now the thing to keep in mind is while this does cover a lot of the usual activities such as equestrian & skiing, it often does not include some of the more extreme sports such as a parasailing & sky diving. It also does not cover any type of new routine medical procedures such as an annual physical. But as long you don’t go too far with any of your sporting events during your trip, this could be a great option for you.
The next one is trip cancellation, interruption or delay. As the name seems to imply this is a good option in case there are any unforeseen circumstances that lead to you having to cancel the trip. This could be anything from natural disasters to a death in the family or even just being under the weather. So if you have any friends or family who have been ill as of late or if you do not feel well, you might want to consider this one as the best option. Even if neither of those is the case, the fact remains no one knows when a natural disaster might occur & this is why it is best to go with this option in the end. Some of the options cover just one of these but there are a lot of new options out there that cover all 3. & it does seem to be rather cheap as most packages do not cost more than $60. So this definitely seems like one of the more viable options you should consider.
Then there’s baggage & personal possessions. Just like the name says, this type of insurance will cover bags you have that might get lost, stolen or damaged when you are on your trip. Some plans will even reimburse you if there is a delay in getting your bags to you for a certain amount of time, such as 24 hours or more. But keep in mind if you do have home owners or renters insurance, that might cover your belongings when you are out on the road. So you should review your policy before committing to any other types of bag insurance.
Another one you might want to consider is EMA insurance. This helps you if you get injured or fall ill when you are on your trip. They will cover all of the bills you might get if you need to take an ambulance to the nearest hospital as well as any costs associated with flying you back to your country should the need arise.
Next is 24 hour assistance which covers a lot of different things such as concierge & even helping you to get a tee time. But keep in mind it is included with a lot of other package plans so you might want to look around first.
There’s also accidental death & dismemberment which as you would expect, covers any of your family if they experience an untimely demise while on your trip. It will also cover any of the costs associated with losing a limb such as hand, foot or even sight.
Finally, there is rental car coverage which will protect you in case anything happens to the car you rent on your trip. But keep in mind it does not cover liability so if you hit anyone with your car accidentally, you may still have to pay their medical bills if they demand it.
